Comfort and Speech: What to Expect

Most patients adapt within a few days to two weeks. Lingual braces sit close to the tongue, so you may notice changes in speech or mild tongue irritation at first. Reading aloud, staying hydrated, and consistent brushing help speed up adaptation. By week two, most people are speaking and eating normally.

It’s common to notice a slight lisp or change in speech during the first few days. Practicing by reading aloud, singing, or repeating tongue twisters can help the tongue adapt faster. If you’re struggling, orthodontists may recommend warm water rinses or orthodontic wax for smoother speech adjustment.
